The Best Way to Help Your Aging Parents

When I really sit and think about how to help aging parents, I find myself coming back to one thing – POSITIVITY. Growing old has its challenges. Health has its challenges. Change has its challenges. But having a clear mindset and trying to focus on positivity during the day might alter the course.

One of my favorite quotes on positivity comes from none other than Dolly Parton. I mean who doesn’t love Dolly Parton? When you see her do you ever find she shares anything negative? Do you ever see her NOT smiling? In fact, she might be one of the most positive persons I have ever seen. She has a story, one full of hardships and tough challenges, but through her persistence she changed her life, growing to be an icon in our country and one we all should aspire to be a little bit more like.

The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” Dolly Parton

What if you’re in the midst of “the rain” with your parents? It’s actually pouring and you just don’t know what to do. Maybe it’s time to move your parents from their home to a senior facility and they refuse to go. Maybe one needs to go and the other doesn’t? What if they don’t know what they need and you have to figure it out. It stinks. It’s awful. It’s painful.

Hang in there. You are not alone. Others have faced this exact journey. Have faith. Look for the rainbow and somehow try to find the positive.

Oh and by the way, if you need a cool Dolly print, check out artist Jenn Hill from Charlotte, NC – @2hills. She has the coolest art and one heck of a cool Dolly print you should consider purchasing.
